Their mission is to support a culture of communication and inquiry at ¼«ËÙÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¿ª½±¼Ç¼, promoting effective habits and practices for developing written, oral, and visual communication for students across all majors.
The goal is to encourage students to think about the ways in which their habits and practices will transfer from their classes into their professional lives outside of ¼«ËÙÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¿ª½±¼Ç¼.
Why Should Students Go To The SCC?
- All communicators can benefit from having another set of eyes or ears on their work.
- Making an SCC appointment lets you set an internal deadline for yourself before your actual deadline.
- Practicing your speech or revising your paper is bound to improve it, similar to practicing music or sports.
- The SCC has coffee, tea, and hot chocolate!
- Our research shows that going to the SCC is correlated with doing well in classes.

Who Can Use The SCC?
Students from all majors at all levels can use the SCC. Although not all Peer Consultants are familiar with all disciplines, they are familiar with universal principles of successful communication that will strengthen your project.

Who Are The Peer Consultants?
Every semester there are between seven and twelve peer consultants. It's best to meet with the consultant whose schedule works for you. All consultants are trained to support all types of project.

Where & How Long Are Sessions?
Sessions are 45 minutes long and occur in the lower level of the library (Room B1, near the IT Help Desk).

How Do I Make An Appointment?

Once you have created an account and logged in, click on one of the white boxes to claim an available appointment.

What If I Can't Make It To My Appointment?
If you need to cancel or reschedule, just log back in to and click on your appointment. By canceling, you make sure that people on the wait list get notified that there is a session available.
There is no penalty for canceling a session. However, if you're a no-show (fail to show up without officially canceling), then you may be blocked from making future appointments, and your professor will be notified.

How Was The SCC Formed?
The SCC was launched as part of ¼«ËÙÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¿ª½±¼Ç¼'s Quality Enhancement Plan. Every time ¼«ËÙÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¿ª½±¼Ç¼ goes up for reaffirmation of accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), we implement a new Quality Enhancement Plan to enhance student learning.
The previous QEP in 2008 led ¼«ËÙÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¿ª½±¼Ç¼ to launch the Student Academic Symposium. The Student Academic Symposium has enhanced ¼«ËÙÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¿ª½±¼Ç¼'s culture of scholarship over the past 10 years, and the SCC formed in 2018 to enhance our culture of communication.
