Dr. O'Brochta studies how identity and representation shape relationships between political elites and the public. His work uses survey, experimental, observational, and qualitative techniques to investigate these questions, with a focus on developing nations — particularly India, Eastern Europe, and post-Soviet states. He also examines ways to more effectively invite students into the social sciences using experiences in research, writing, and civic engagement. His work has been published in the British Journal of Political Science, Political Behavior, Governance, and Research and Politics, among other outlets.
